NEB BOYS: Billy Dineen Leads Creighton Prep Past Lincoln
May 5th, 2010
Senior middie Billy Dineen registered a game-high four points on three goals and one assist to lead Creighton Prep to a 6-3 victory over Lincoln in a Nebraska High School Lacrosse Association game Tuesday between the state’s top two teams.
Junior middie Peter Stoll added three points on two goals and one assist, and junior attackman Max Geier had a goal and an assist to help the Junior Jays (10-2) knock off the state’s surprise top-ranked team.
In the cage, senior goalie Chris Feldman saved seven shots.
In defeat, junior middies Joe Naumann and Phil Ehrmann, and junior long-stick middie Ansel Whittle, all scored once for the Rampage (10-2), which had its program-record nine-game winning streak snapped.
Creighton Prep led 2-0 at the end of the first quarter, 3-1 at halftime and 5-2 at the end of the third quarter. The teams then traded goals during the final 12 minutes.
“I thought we played very well, a complete game,” Creighton Prep head coach Steve Haney said. “We concentrated on just getting the ground balls and winning the turnover battle. Lincoln’s a very athletic team, so we made sure we pushed the tempo in practice all week long.”
