NEB BOYS: Big 2nd Quarter Lifts Creighton Prep Past Burke

April 9th, 2010

Senior middie Billy Dineen registered a game-high eight points on seven goals and one assist to lead unbeaten Creighton Prep to a 14-5 victory over Omaha Burke in a Nebraska High School Lacrosse Association game Thursday.

Junior middie Peter Stoll added seven points on three goals and four assists, junior attackman James West had three points on a goal and two assists and freshman middie J.D. Kettle finished with a goal and an assist to help the Junior Jays (6-0) extend their season-opening winning streak to six games.

Senior middie Alex Salcedo and junior middie Zach Zitek each scored once to round out the Creighton Prep offense.

Omaha Burke fell to 1-2.

Omaha Burke got off to a good start. It led 1-0 at the end of the first quarter, but it was all Creighton Prep from there. The Junior Jays scored seven goals in the second quarter to take a 7-2 halftime lead, an advantage they extended to 11-3 by the end of the third quarter.

“I thought we had some work to do in the first quarter,” Creighton Prep head coach Steve Haney said. “We played sloppy. But then, in the second quarter, we got back to the basics and were able to put some goals in.”
