WASH BOYS: WHSBLA Playoffs: Bellevue Bounces Northshore
May 22nd, 2010
Senior middies Thomas Zervas and Cole Nordstrom and senior attackman Ryan Deal all registered a co-team-high five points to lead No. 13 Bellevue to a 16-7 victory over Northshore in a Washington High School Boys Lacrosse Association quarterfinal Friday night.
Zervas and Deal each scored four goals and added one assist, and Nordstrom finished with three goals and two assists, as Bellevue (18-3) advanced to the state semifinals. The Wolverines will next face Bainbridge Island on Wednesday night for the right to go to the Division I state championship game.
In the teams’ only regular-season meeting, Bellevue beat Bainbridge Island, 8-7, on April 15.
“I think it’s going to be a dogfight,” Bellevue head coach John Baumann said. “They have improved all season. We’re not going in there taking them lightly at all.”
On Friday, senior middie Eric Omri had three points on two goals and an assist, senior attackman Brett Mennella scored twice and sophomore attackman Blake Samuel had a goal to round out the offense for Bellevue.
Northshore finished the season 11-7.
Bellevue led 4-1 at the end of the first quarter, 8-2 at halftime and 14-5 at the end of the third quarter.
“I think we had a good week of practice, and it carried over to the game,” Baumann said. “We played well as a team.”
