AC: UPSET! Austin ATX Stuns NorCal Fog City, 7-4
SAN DIEGO -- Army-bound senior middie David Tarsa, attackman Sam Jones and attackman Max Roach all registered a co-game-high three points to lead Austin ATX to a 7-4 upset victory over NorCal Fog City in both teams’ opening game at the Adrenaline Challenge.
In an Adrenaline Elite Group 2 game, Tarsa, Jones and Roach all scored twice and had an assist to give ATX (1-0) its biggest win ever in an Adrenaline tournament. Fog City, which is the club team of St. Ignatius College Prep, is the tournament’s defending champion and had its seven-game Adrenaline Challenge winning streak snapped.
Middie Cody Wetherald also had a goal, middie Deron Turner dished an assist and long-stick middie Jeremy Agness shut down the West’s top-ranked player.
Agness held Virginia-bound senior middie Rob Emery off the board, as Austin led by as many as four goals.
“I just played him with the body and threw some checks,” Agness said. “When I got the takeaways, he would cross over, and it didn’t take much effort.”
Austin led 3-0 at halftime before Jones gave ATX a four-goal lead when he finished a feed from attackman J.J. Jackson. Fog City (0-1) never got closer than three goals the rest of the game.
“We’ve always had pretty solid teams,” Agness said. “I think we can beat anyone out here. We’ve just got to play together.”
