UT GIRLS: Angie Olsen Leads No. 23 Alta Past Riverton, 19-7

Junior attack Angie Olsen scored a game-high five goals to lead No. 23 Alta to a 19-7 victory over Riverton in a Utah Lacrosse Association Division I game Tuesday afternoon.

Junior attack Nancy Linford added five points on two goals and three assists, senior middie-defender Dani DeWaal finished with four points on three goals and one assist and sophomore middie Malia Stephens had four points on two goals and two assists to help the defending state champion Hawks (3-0) win their 16th straight game.

Senior middie Taylor Dunn scored three goals, senior middie Jessica Staples had a goal and an assist and three others scored once to round out the Alta offense.

Riverton fell to 1-1.

Alta started strong, rolling to a 9-3 halftime lead, and the Hawks just got stronger as the game progressed. Alta reeled off 10 more goals in the second half to win it going away.

“We definitely played better in the second half than in the first half,” Alta head coach Megan Gorringe said. “Overall, I thought we worked out some kinks today, and we’re moving forward.”
