LOU BOYS: Andy Reichel Leads Ocean Springs Past Lafayette
Junior attackman Andy Reichel scored a game-high eight goals to lead Ocean Springs to a 15-6 victory over Lafayette in a Louisiana High School Lacrosse League game Sunday afternoon.
In a game played in muddy field conditions, senior middie Dewy Braa and senior attackman Nick Rocco each added three points to help Mississippi-based Ocean Springs (1-1) get a split on its two-game road trip to Lafayette.
Ocean Springs dropped its opener against St. Thomas More on Saturday, 9-7.
“We performed average,” Ocean Springs assistant coach Mark Rocco said. “There’s still a lot of work to be done. Yesterday was a big disappointment. We should have won that game. We’ve got tougher teams coming up, so we’ve got to get ready for them.”
On Sunday, Braa scored two goals and had an assist, and Nick Rocco finished with a goal and two assists. Senior attackman Bryce Shepard scored twice and junior middies Adam Westman and Cody Forshee each had a goal to round out the scoring.
Defensively, sophomore goalie Alston Smith saved 15 shots.
Lafayette (0-1) lost its season opener.
Ocean Springs controlled the game from the first quarter. It led 5-1 after 12 minutes, 10-2 at halftime and 13-5 going into the fourth quarter.
“We bounced back well,” Mark Rocco said. “We came out and played today. We had a hard time picking up the ball (because of the field conditions), but we did well.”
