March 24th, 2010

From Press Releases

Harney senior middie-attackman Andrew Roy has committed to play NCAA Division I lacrosse at Mount Saint Mary’s University in Emmitsburg, Md.

The 6-foot-4, 220-pound Roy scored more than 40 goals in each of his sophomore and junior seasons, and he averaged seven ground balls per game. In 2008, he played for the High Desert Conference All Star Team, and he was a second-team All High Desert Conference selection in 2009. Roy also can play effectively as a long-stick midfielder and close defenseman.

“I visited Mount Saint Mary’s in January and loved the campus,” Roy said. “The school is a great fit, because I come from a devout Catholic family, Coach Tom Gravante was great and I can learn a lot from him both on and off the field. The players were very friendly, and the campus was beautiful.”

Roy, who will be the first player from Eastern Oregon to play at the Division I level, said he also considered Mount St. Joseph in Cincinnati .

“Both schools have great Catholic traditions, great academics, both had my major, strong athletics and great campus communities,” Roy said. “I wanted to play at the D1 level and Coach Gravante and Mount Saint Mary’s gave me that opportunity.”
