La Costa Canyon senior defender Amy Soenksen has committed to play NCAA Division III lacrosse at Hamilton College.

Soenksen said she also considered Pomona, Santa Clara and Gettysburg but settled on the Clinton, N.Y.-based school because she meshed well with her future teammates.

“When I visited the school, I really liked all the people I met,” Soenksen said. “The team seemed like a big family. The coach was really nice, and they were really focused on the team.”

Soenksen added that she is prepared to make the transition from being a high school player in San Diego County to being a college player in upstate New York.

“It’s going to be a large change, but I think with proper clothing it won’t be too bad.” Soenksen said. “It will be fun to experience something new. I’ve never actually built a snowman before, so that will be fun.”
