MEN: Air Force Rallies to Beat Army in Overtime, 8-7
March 14th, 2010
Sophomore middie Adam Paranka scored his only goal with 1:04 remaining in overtime to give Air Force an 8-7 victory over Army in an NCAA Division I game Saturday in Colorado Springs.
Paranka added two assists to finish with a co-team-high three points, as Air Force (1-3) snapped a season-opening, three-game losing streak.
Attackman Vinny Sandtorv scored a team-high three goals, middie Zack Carroll added two goals and an assist and attackman Ridge Flick scored twice to round out the offense for the Falcons.
Defensively, goalie Brian Wilson saved 11 shots.
In defeat, attackman Garrett Thul scored a game-high four goals for Army, which fell to 1-4.
Air Force got off to a quick start, rolling to a 6-2 lead in the second half. Sandtorv game Air Force its biggest advantage when he scored with 10:14 to play in the third quarter.
But the Falcons have had trouble holding onto second-half leads this season, and Saturday was no different. Army answered with a five-goal run and went ahead, 7-6, after Devin Lynch scored with 3:19 to play in regulation.
However, this time Air Force came back. Flick scored the equalizer with 2:29 remaining to force overtime, setting the stage for Paranka to come through in the clutch.
